Imposter Syndrome
Feeling fake, an imposter in your own life?
Stuck, unable to move forward because someone's gonna find out?
Even though you're good at your thing, years of experience. They will see through you.
Your self-worth is through the floor. Sitting in meetings, listening to others talking and wondering if you deserve to be there.
It's Called Imposter Syndrome, You're Not Alone
“Now when I receive recognition for my acting, I feel incredibly uncomfortable. I tend to turn in on myself. I feel like an imposter. Any moment, someone’s going to find out I’m a total fraud, and that I don’t deserve any of what I’ve achieved.” Emma Watson
The crazy thing is, you know it's not true. But you can't shake this feeling of being a fraud.
Take a deep breath and...relax. You're in good company.
What Does Imposter Syndrome Feel Like?
Confusion sets in.
Gets stuck inside your head, buried deep.
The mental blocks you feel, the hurdles holding you back, are real.
To you.
They're invisible to everyone who knows you.
Whatever happened back then, you were doing the best you could.
Struggling to survive.
Keeping your head above water.
Getting through the day.
It wasn't your fault.
Time to let go.
You don't need anyone's permission to forgive yourself.
Let it go, watch your impostor fade away.
You'll be free to move forward again and Get Shit Done.
If you want to get this sorted fast, contact me.
There's no need to waste years lying on a couch, talking yourself hoarse while you stare at a stranger’s ceiling.
Imposter Syndrome is...NOT...YOUR...FAULT.
Someone somewhere in the past said:
- You're not good enough;
- You'll never amount to anything;
- You don't deserve x y or z.
- Maybe you never got any praise or support or...love.
- Perhaps someone lied to you. Said that you had to be more like them, but in reality, they were never who they seemed to be.
Here's three tips for combatting Imposter Syndrome. If these don't help then get in contact with me and we'll look for a deeper cause and sort it out.
3 Ways To Overcome Imposter Syndrome
Some people can overcome imposter syndrome on their own, others need a little more help. Here's three suggestions which may help you to overcome it on your own:
- Understand that you're not alone. Imposter Syndrome is a very common occurrence, especially among high achievers. Accepting that you feel that way is the first step to recognising it and overcoming the problem. Yes, I know that you don't believe that you're a high achiever - we can work on that if you need it.
- It feels like everyone's watching you, but in reality most people are just getting on with their lives and taking care of their own business. You're not as visible as you think you are.
- Remember that it's ok not to know how to do something first time round. Adapt a growth mindset and have faith that if you don't know how to do something now, that you can learn how to get it done with practice. No-one's perfect.
