“So the pie isn’t perfect? Cut it into wedges. Stay in control, and never panic.” Martha Stewart, 3rd August 1941
Martha became famous, went to jail, then became famous again. From what I’ve read, she stayed in control and didn’t panic.
Like she says, some days your pie will come out cockeyed. Instead of throwing it away and starting again, cut the bloody thing into wedges. Job done.
Life burns our pies from time to time. And some folks will dump it in the trash can, giving up.
Where does that get them? Smelly, dirty and pretty messed up.
Does it change anything?
Nope.
Trying to scrape the burnt bits off your pie leaves a mess that doesn’t look like a pie.
We can’t scrape the burnt bits off our lives. Accept you made a mess, deal with it and move on.
Wasting time thinking about your failed baking attempts does that. It wastes your life.
You can’t put the thing back in the oven and start again. We can’t go back in time.
Look forwards not back because life doesn’t come with a remote replay button.
Everything else does, except kids, maybe. But you weren’t given one the instant you were born.
So STOP looking for it.
You make a mistake or 3 – it happens.
The best thing you can do with them is learn to do better, share that knowledge to help others stop making the same screw ups.
If they listen…
You are the only one in charge of your life.
Take control of it.
Make better decisions.
Take the time to think before you make your next decision.
Let’s be honest. Most of the mistakes we’ve made were because we didn’t really THINK about IT, before doing it.
Seemed like a good idea at the time.
Turns out it wasn’t.
Don’t panic.
Panic prevents progress.
It paralyses us. Stops us thinking straight, making us dig the hole deeper, as if it wasn’t deep enough already.
Panic makes things worse. Never better.
When you see the pie’s done for, step back, take a deep breath and relax.
That moment of calm will give you time to think things through, find a way out or an alternative solution.
It’s time to stop making the same mistakes.
It’s time to take a good look inside. Throw away your old ways of thinking.
Look for a new recipe.
